potato leaves turning yellow
Some of my potatoes are turning yellow and falling over...others right next to them are fine...some of the leaves have spots on them. I planted mid-April...they are puple viking...could they have disease?

When your taters are almost done they start falling over!! This is a good thing! You should start withholding water for a while before you dig them up! Google how/when to dig them up for more info!

So even though some of the plants are still green...only a few can be ready?
And what about the spots on the leaves?
Thanks much.

Re: potato leaves turning yellow
I have to add that the plants will get "REALLY UGGGGGGLY" looking!!!
The plant will stop nurishing the greenry and consentrate on building the potatoes themselves. The green parts of my "tater tires" got plum pittyfull looking.
Mid April to now is about about 90 days I don't know about your taters cycle but they should be getting close.

Re: potato leaves turning yellow
Mine fell over a couple of weeks ago with some hi winds and never stood back up again. I am not sure if I started them deep enough and they were very tall. I don't see any peeking through, but I am wondering the same thing....when are they ready. I never got flowers either....someone ate them before they could pop up. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? And they all look really ugly for the most part as well.

potato leaves turning yellow and having spots on them can be the indication that its time to harvest them.

Re: potato leaves turning yellow
Mine turned yellow and leaves fell off,but a new shoot shot up and is now 3" tall with green leaves. should I harvest the potatoes or wait until this new green shoot turns yellow? Thanks in advance as this is my first year growing potatoes.

Re: potato leaves turning yellow
This was my first year growing potatos and I harvested before leaving the garden for the rest of the summer, so I don't know the answer. However, I do know you can stick you hand under the plants and harvest just a few at a time. I can remember visiting my grandmother and going out into the field to dig for the small new potatos for the evening meal. The main harvest was later in the year.
