Re: Monthly Avatar Theme for May: May Flowers
I was out about yesterday and saw several different colors of irises. Should have photoed them! There was one very pale pink that looked like a gossamer fairy wing!

Amazing photos! That iris path is stunning!
ericam, Such interesting flowers. Aren't your seasons opposite to ours here in No. America?
Also, are we supposed to be shrinking our photos before posting them?
Just saw these this morning:

forgot about this little one blooming earlier in May:

I went crazy planing bulbs last year. These guys are in an old wheel barrow.

Got this clematis, Mrs. Yuki, for free last year. The nursery was tossing it as they thought it was dead.![Cool](https://2img.net/i/fa/i/smiles/icon_cool.gif)

Time to update my avatar as the white bleeding hearts are just about finished. But the cranesbill/wild geranium is blooming like crazy! And my red & white columbine just bloomed today. No photos yet tho as I lost my camera... ![Sad](https://2img.net/i/fa/i/smiles/icon_sad.gif)

Re: Monthly Avatar Theme for May: May Flowers
The old saying is for June is ..... " June is busting out all over " ..
But we're not allowed to go down one of those routes
... So I guess ....... It will have to be related to renewal / new growth in the garden beds
Perhaps something for " budding " photographers to take piccies of.

Lol. No story really. I was just looking at all the beautiful flowers everyone was posting here as their avatars and started wondering what the "Worlds Ugliest Flower" was, so I googled it

Typically, our regional hosts have been coming up with the ideas for the monthly themes. Any ideas??

Haha, when I think of June I think of June bugs, Bugs (or your biggest garden pest) could be the monthly avatar. Although I watched a video Turan posted the other day about how the parasitic wasp has babies with a catapillar and it gave me nightmares so maybe not such a great idea. Earwigs also really disturb me and I saw videos about them too,

Not sure if I have some sort of genetic mutant in the flower tastes......, but I think that petunias are about the ugliest flower, yet they seem to be about the most popular ones.....

Cheyanna - earwigs are a NO-NO for me. I think I'm more afraid of them than spiders and worms! eerrrr!
I saw a motion picture years ago where an earwig got into a man's head and laid eggs there. When they hatched they ate his brain and drove him crazy! YUGH!
How about beneficial bugs!?

HAha, that's hilarious to know that I am not alone, this is exactly what I think (know) they will do to me. Spiders don't bother me at all, I see them and say hello but an earwig ugh, I am terrified.

Sounds like a Stink Bug. Don't squish them...but if you do you'll know where they get their name from.

Re: Monthly Avatar Theme for May: May Flowers
If we do bugs, would it be possible for everyone 'in the know' to let us know if it's a beneficial insect or not? I have NO idea what's good and what's not...except for slugs! One of the slugs in my garden, if not all of them, must have had babies coz I'm finding slugs the size of a small drop of water on EVERYthing!
How dare they, right???

I found two water droplet sized slugs devouring a cucumber sprout one morning! Hungry little babies. Good idea to have us post whether our avatar bugs are beneficial or not.
