I really like the way my SFG looks with the grid I have now.

I like my grid! But my husband doesn't. 542461800_w6MLG-M

We have, periodically, taken it off to stir in new mix and just turn the soil after a section of the garden is finished. My husband, however, hates the grid and doesn't see the point of it. He thinks it is annoying and gets in the way of weeding (we have a serious weed problem due to lots of neighbors that don't control weeds and lots of critters that carry seeds around).

I have thought about switching over to nylon string for my grid - that would be flexible and easy to get underneath. I like my grid, and I'm not convinced I should change it!

If you want hubby's help, I'd suggest you work out something that makes him happy. That's what I think now - 45 years into marriage. I didn't think that way so much when I was younger, but I've gotten smarter! I like my grid! But my husband doesn't. Icon_wink

I like your grid too. Kudos to whomever did the weaving. okay

If your grids are fastened at the intersections (I couldn't tell from the pic)
a compromise would be to cut the grid into 4x4 sections. That wouldn't affect the look much, and would make moving/adjusting the grids easier.

I like the grid too! I like the recommendation of separating the grid into two 4x4 grids. To expand on that idea - since it looks like one half of your garden are shorter plants - you could affix the grid to a hinge on one side and leave the other sides loose. Then when you need to weed the short plant side, you just lift the grid to a standing position.

Won't make life easier on the tall plant side, but maybe your hubby can weed the short plant side where he could lift the grid up and you can be responsible for the tall side where the grid is fully fastened down?

I wonder if putting down some fresh mulch each season would help reduce the weed issue? The seeds flying from the neighbors & critters wouldn't reach the soil as easily then.

Ask your DH to wait a little while as you decide what to do. By the time you decide, the plants will be so big you won't even see the grid. Then tell him you took care of it.I like my grid! But my husband doesn't. 262465

I hope you know I'm just being funny! As others have said, if you want him to continue to help and/or if you both do the weeding, compromise is the best answer.

BTW I love your grid!

Hmmm here is an odd idea
install hinges so you can flip one side over while you work on it
