Time to clean the fish tank, put the water on the SFG?
It is time to clean our 30 gal fish tank. I am wondering about putting the "dirty" water on the garden. Good idea or not?
ETA: Or should I dump in on the compost pile instead?

Yes, it's safe to do. It's a variable option in hydroponics. I think TimW has some practical experience using fish pond water.
My Husband swears by the fish water
He will show you the latest patch of grass that has benifited from the water (I think he is dreaming, but is certainly isn't hurting the grass). We get 10 gallons of used fish water a week - he takes the first 5 for his grass and I take the 2nd 5 gallons for my seedlings and recent transplants. All of my youngins are just fine - can't say they are better or worse than if I had just used tap water (it hasn't rained here for weeks) - but they seem perfectly fine to me

I used to water my lucky bamboo with fish water all the time -- I had gorgeous bamboo.

I raise tadpoles every spring and always dump their dirty water in the garden. Go for it!

I see that it is quite an old topic here. But I hope you can help me...I would like to know which filter can be used for the 55-gallon tank?

Looking at this old topic, wouldn't it matter whether it's a fresh or salt water aquarium?

Salt in any degree is not good for plant life. Osmosis happens when using salt, it sucks moisture out of many bacteria...you want to keep and nurture as many bacteria as possible.
Regarding water from aquariums , consider it waste water and in my opinion should not be used in gardens where edibles are growing.

+1
I use the fertilized water from the aquarium for house plants, and they love it, but I would never put it in my vegetable gardens.
