Mel's Mix ingredients in Montgomery county PA
Hi,
Does anyone here know of any sources for Mel's mix ingredients? I have been ordering from Virginia, but it's just to costly to keep ordering from there. The shipping cancels out the benefits of getting the supplies at a cheaper rate. I live about 40 minutes from Philadelphia.

The Wegman's store in King of Prussia has lobster compost. It's 10 bucks per 1 cubic foot bag.

They have 4 cubic foot bags of vermiculite. Should have peet moss and possibly some composts as well. For sure will have hummus/manure bags. Also have big bags of worm castings.
I get my vermiculite there and my peet moss from Agway. Just search for the one near you. They may have big bags of vermiculite as well but the one near me normally doesn't. They usually only have big bags of Perlite.
Whole Foods has a couple kinds of compost this time of year. A lot of the horse farms around have horse manure. You can always compost some of that. I use it directly but most of the die hards on here will carp about that.
Another place you might be near to that has some good stuff is Tractor Supply Co. I get my trellising material from them and they seem to have lots of amendments as well.

You can also give Jerry Austin a call and he'll either sell you small quantities of vermiculite or tell you where his distributors are located. He's located about 40 miles north of Pittsburgh, but has distributors all over the place.

I wholeheartedly recommend J.P. Austin. When there was a mistake in my order, he more than made up for it.

Achin Back Garden Center in Pottstown has their version of the mix on hand and they sell everything you would need to mix your own. They're open 7 days a week, and good people. The number is (610) 495-2870.
