growing pole beans
First time growing pole beans. What companion plants will they grow best with? Would it make sense to let them climb on tomato plants/

Re: growing pole beans
I recommend fo not let your beans grow on tomato plants, the tomatoes will disappear. Pole beans really need a dedicated space and a tall trellis.
3 trellises; left 4 ft empty, middle 10 ft Kentucky Wonder pole beans, right 6 ft rattlesnake pole bean

Yup. I am not planting Kentucky Wonder beans again this year; I spent way too much time up on the ladder to at them the past two seasons.curio wrote:Camp... is that middle trellis 10' tall???

I'm growing my pole beans in two ways:sscoffin wrote:First time growing pole beans. What companion plants will they grow best with? Would it make sense to let them climb on tomato plants/
1) three sisters, with corn and squash (the pole bean climbs the corn
2) KY Wonder alternating with my tomato squares, so they are on the same trellis.
I've done KYW before, and just headed the growth south when I reach the top of the trellis.
No place for a ladder like Camp!
You can find a list of companion plants on Wikipedia.org. That will give you some info to get started.
