Last year we tried growing Brussels sprouts but they didn't make anything, this year we have some!

Lucky you! They are looking fine! Mine are duds this year. Last year I had good success with sprinkling a handful of dried blood around the base every 2 weeks making plumper sprouts. Very Happy

Very nice Josh. Those we are growing in the community garden seem a bit loose.

I planted some in the spring that did NOTHING. Should I leave them through the fall and see what happens?

Josh I love your posts!!! It always makes me smile to see the wonderful things you can grow and it gives me renewed excitement at what I can grow every time!

They are called "Bubbles" Brussels Sprouts. Maturity-85-90 days.

I planted mine in the spring too, and just this past 2 weeks they started making sprouts. Maybe if you give yours some more time they will start making sprouts too.

Last year I planted some in the spring, and they never did make anything, and they made it through the winter and then in the spring I thought they were making sprouts, but it was blooms, so they must have been going to make seeds, and I pulled them up and planted these.

MM, I have been discouraged about my BS too. So today I went out and took off practically all of the large foliage and tomorrow I am going to nip off the growing tip of the plant. I will follow the advice I found on the internet last year for boosting my BS.(that sounds funny). Anyway, here is a thread from last year about Brussels Sprouts and you can find that there are a few good links about how to grow them. BS is for Brussels Sprouts. Very Happy

brussel sprouts Empty update on brussels sprouts

Post  Josh 9/17/2011, 7:25 pm

An update on the brussels sprouts, they are doing really good still growing and making brussels sprouts. They have a different taste to them...not to bad...but they smell awful when they are cooking!

Brussels Sprouts, in my opinion, are best prepared by roasting or braising with a bit of shallot or onion, garlic, olive oil and sea salt. Or bacon What a Face
