One of the neighbors dropped off a bag of sprouts the other day.  I didn't know we could grow them way down here but ya can bet I will be planting them now these things were amazing.

Good Lord say the same, I'll have 'em in next falls garden.  If I can find some around may try them in the spring, will look this weekend when we hit the nursery sale.

Cappy, how did you cook them?

I've baked them before & they were awful...

Click the link it shows them being prepared and coming out the oven.  Some one told me they boiled them in a crawfish boil and they were amazing.  I have also roasted them on the BBQ pit before.

The English ways for cooking Brussels Sprouts
A

Peel till the sprouts are nice tight balls , cut the stem off and make an X  cut in the bottom of the stalk , boil to death in salted water for at least 25 min and whisk up the sludge left over as a puree.... Blek ! affraid

B
Prep as above this time  bring water to the boil add the sprouts , bring back to boil for 6 min remove from heat drain add a small knob of butter and a twist of black pepper shake gently in the pan to cover them all in hot melted butter & pepper. Serve ASAP

C
Prep as in A , put them in a covered microwave dish with two egg cups of cold water microwave them for about 3 -4 min for 10 sprouts so they are still crunchy . Watch out for the steam burning your hands .

D
Prep as in A pop them in an open frying pan with some butter & black pepper and gently fry till one or two take on a slight light brown colour

E
Put them in a stew for the last 20 min of cook time and make sure you stay on your own for the next three days till the air smells a bit sweeter & things are much quieter.

Whilst on my own in 1984 I was laid flat on the lounge floor on a sleeping bag for five days with damaged lumbar disk problems kicking off big time . Each day my Big sister brought me a massive bowl of her vegetarian version of a stew complete with vegge sausages and other re textured vegetable protein and sprouts .

On the third day the doctor came to see how things were , let himself in the house and said " My god man what the hell have you been eating , it stinks like a poke of devils in here ".

lol! Yes, they are stinky little things.

We steam them for 10 minutes, from cold water start to finish, about 1" of water in the bottom pot. Drain, and toss with butter with salt. Or almond slivers sauteed a bit in butter.

Sanderson it aint the sprouts that are stinky its the person what ate them the next day Razz

I cant wait to try them on our smokey pit or in spicy cajun crab boil flavorings but they were wonderful just roasted very lightly seasoned like we did too.  I am told they may not make it in the spring cause we get too hot too fast but if I can find some I'm gonna try it anyway
