who have you used and recommend?
I know there is the post of a ton of seed companies after going through about 15 companies websites I have no clue who to buy from.

I've ordered from Baker Creek and Territorial before with no problems and decent germination rates. One piece of advice I will pass along: don't order a single packet at a time because shipping and handling can be a killer.

Baker Creek is ahead of the curve in having both a West Coast and an East Coast presence. Don't know if that has anything to do with it, though I do prefer to deal with more local companies and try to visit the companies when we travel near them. Makes it more up close and personal. Nonna

I saw this same kinda thread here last year, and looked at Baker Creek, couple others, and settled on Fedco. They are very cheap, and you can tell it by the website. I found the key to using their site is to open two windows, one for an order form and the other to browse and copy item numbers. If you can handle that, you can save about half.
There were several packs of lettuce that went from .70 to 1.50
Free shipping on over $30, (that was me, I went crazy)
$5 on all others.
Green Deer Tongue Fedco $1.10

here is what look for in a seed company
seed per pack/weight per packet of the variety i am interested in.
mel gives the example of half pack of radish seeds being 200 seeds.
my option is that beginners should go with varieties that are time tested
and not newest latest and greatest.
once have a few seasons under you belt with certain crop then you can get
fancy. which goes with basic idea of the square foot garden start small,
limit how much space you use, do not take on more work then you can handle.
