I have read many posts where people mention ordering seeds. Could you please give me some ideas of where I can buy quality seeds? Thanks

I get mine at Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds. http://rareseeds.com/ Or the feed store. Or one of the box stores. I have heard of some other places here on the forum but haven't tried them yet. I've ordered from Baker Creek twice now and been very pleased with their product and service.

Where do you buy your seeds? Empty Where to buy seeds?

I buy most of mine at Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds near Mansfield, MO, or order from them online, but I also like ordering online from Southern Exposure Seed Exchange in Virginia. They don't have as large a selection as Baker Creek. The Baker Creek catalog is wonderful to read.

I also pick up a packet now and then from Wal-Mart, Lowe's, the grocery store, local farm stores, - I never pass up a seed rack without checking for a bargain or something new.

I've also purchased a few things from R.H. Shumway's that I couldn't locate anyplace else.

And of course, there is the seed exchange thread on this forum.

My favorites online are:

http://www.johnnyseeds.com in Northern Maine
http://www.territorialseed.com In Oregon

I only do organic and heirloom so I also check the Organic Seed carousel in Lowe's as well.

Howdy:

Along with the places other folks have posted I also order from Pumpkin Nook. They carry the Ferry Morse line of seeds and they are 1/2 the price printed on the packet. So if the normal retail is $1.99 expect to pay only $1.00. They also limit the shipping costs for seeds as well. Last year the shipping costs when ordering seeds was $3.00 for the entire order.

God Bless, Ward and Mary.

I don't believe that everything these seed companies sells are GMO. I think the list just states these companies do business and provide some GMO seed, though you cannot tell because there is no labeling requirement that I know of.

I've added Baker Creek Seeds of Missouri to my list of favorites. I've already got a list of seeds I'm ordering from them.
They sell non-hybrid, non-GMO, non-treated and non-patented seeds only.
Online they are at www.rareseed.com

Their new sister company is www.ComstockFerre.com in Conn.
I'm still awaiting my seed catalong from Comstock.

I cant wait till the order comes in the mail. thanks to who ever posted the web site

www.johnnyseeds.com (can't go wrong, all organic farmers are buying from them)
www.botanicalinterests.com (love them, I believe Whole Foods carries their seeds, they are not the fastest shippers, though)
www.rareseeds.com (these guys are great)
www.tomatofest.com (recently found, and almost fainted when I saw the choices)

My seed sites selection is determined mostly not by pricing, but by detailed description and care instructions, and variety of seeds. I try to stick with heirloom seeds, even if not organic, but organic heirloom is the match made in heaven, and that would be my first choice.

I have bought seeds from Lowe's (Burpee's and Ferry Morse), the organic kinds. I am going to by some from Terroir Seeds this year. They are based in Northern AZ.

http://www.underwoodgardens.com/

We will see how they do. They are heirloom seeds.

This is a great list. Last year I just purchased seeds without regard for whether or not they were GE or organic. This information will enable me to make an informed decision.

Is it ok to post the actual lists on the forum or can we only provide links to information when it contains company names etc.?

I prefer to use the links and not take up extra server space if the info is available elsewhere.

Post  Nonna.PapaVino Fri Apr 22, 2011 5:55 pm

For years, Nichols Garden Nursery has been our source for vegetable and herb seeds. I've never been disappointed:
https://www.nicholsgardennursery.com/store/product-list.php?Home-pg1-cid1.html
This year, I decided to completely redo our old strawberry bed, having purchased two 4' x 4' raised bed kits from Costco. We ordered Tristar strawberry plants from Territorial Seeds, and Seascape plants from Nichols. Both companies sent good quality plants that took off in MM. For just about the same price, Territorial sent me 24 plants, Nichols sent 30 with a lower shipping charge. Not dis-ing Territorial, their plants WERE larger, and they have some items Nichols doesn't carry (both Oregon companies, though only Nichols is still family-owned). I'll second Weedless' excitement with TomatoFest, looking through their on-line catalog, I was tempted to plant the whole garden in just tomatoes! They process one's order quickly, efficiently AND include a bonus pack of seeds, so we are growing three plants of a yellow called Dagma's Perfection, which is described as "Deliciously flavorful with overtones of tropical fruit and subtle hints of lime." Oh, shoot, now I'm drooling. Where do you buy your seeds? 959632
