Feeling Hot, Hot Hot!
Anyone else MELTING? It was 80 and VERY humid early this morning.
What's everyone doing to beat the heat and still not neglect your garden?
One benefit of SFG is it's so easy to cover your plants so you don't have to spend much time caring for your garden.
I've resorted to a drip hose instead of watering from a bucket (I really can't tolerate the heat).
To water the containers on the deck I found this great gadget below. There's a narrow hose inside which automatically retracts inside the "watering can". You can adjust the water from a spray to a stream and you feel like you're using a real watering can.

I have seen women looking at jewelry ads with a misty eye and one hand resting on the heart, and I only know what they're feeling because that's how I read the seed catalogs in January - Barbara Kingsolver - Animal, Vegetable, Miracle

Re: Feeling Hot, Hot Hot!
We used to line dance to that song all the time. Darned if I can remember how the dance goes now
Even in Maine we're feeling the heat!
This summer heat wave is terrible. We're getting 90s here in Maine which is highly unusual. Last nite it dropped to the low 50s so it cooled off the old Earth but good. Today its mid-90s and expected to be close to 3 digits this afternoon and tomorrow.
I hope my gardens don't suffer. I, at least, can sit in front of a fan or turn on my a/c when its too hot.

LOL you wouldn't catch me dancing in this heat. Although I COULD limbo under my tree.

It is hot, hot, hot and getting hotter here Central NJ
It was 100 degrees today. Same for tomorrow and probrably hotter.
It is just too hot to even go outside!
I know it is always hot in July but I would like it to be around 85 degrees.
Oh, well better check on my garden tom.

I beat you. In Maine where we never expect such high temps, we hit 106 at one oclock. Horrid hot weather.

It is 99 degrees here with a heat index of 110. No wonder my cucumbers are doing poorly.

Oh I believe in climate change. It's been getting hotter & hotter since the last Ice Age.

Re: Feeling Hot, Hot Hot!
Hotter and hotter faster and faster, I remember as a kid having snow ball fights on my birthday 4/11 now the winters are so much shorter in AK the spruce beetle population is exploding and killing off vast areas of forest. This just happened in my life time.
Yet another reason SFG is good for everyone, even people who are not gardening. By rasing our own food we are reducing green house gasses.

I read a report that said MAJOR improvements to the environment could be made if each family ate locally one meal a week. Eating something from our own gardens every day is yummy, easy, and making an impact! Square foot gardening is green in a LOT of ways!

This post is being sent with NO emotion (other than a light and cheerful heart) and with utmost respect.
I agree, we need to be good stewards of this wonderful gift we've been given and do our best to decrease our negative impact on the earth.
Just the other day I was reading an article showing how the rhetoric from BOTH sides is hyped and how "facts" from BOTH sides have been falsified.
For instance: A chart is shown with WILD spikes in temp, while the earth's average temp has really only gone from 56.3 to 57. 7 F from 1901-2000. The the scale on the chart (increments of 0.2 degrees C) was used intentionally to cause panic.
And those who don't believe in climate change have discounted evidence from people who really SHOULD be listened to. There ARE things man can do - eating locally is one of them.
All-in-all the media is once again stirring the pot to create discord.
Love you guys!
