What herbs are you growing this year??
I love growing different herbs, even if it is just for looks. This year I am really trying to beef up the spice cuboard including homemade chili powder etc.. I put mine in planter boxes on top of my deck rail all the way around and also some in my SFG. This year I found a source that had some unique choices, but I wasn't sure what I would do with a lot of them. There were several I had never heard of. We currently have:
Pineapple Mint
Lemon Thyme
Lemon Balm
Stevia
Basil
Cilantro
Rosemary
BBQ Rosemary (Great for BBQ skewers)
Peppermint
Majoram
Hot and Spicy Oregeno
Chives

What do you find mallow useful for I have it and it seems a bit invasive thru seeds dropping also the clump grows kinda fast from year to year. One that I am adding again is Comfrey mostly because of how it is described as beneficial in compost.

Summer savory, onion chives, oregano, basil, cilantro (2), thyme. No mint. We don't use it and it's way too invasive for me! I grew catnip once, when we had multiple cats. OMG... it took over and I never did manage to get rid of it all!

I only have 2 sfg boxes so far, so only have parsley and cilantro in sfgs. I have mint in a pot beside the sfgs to keep it from spreading uncontrollably. I tried growing dill and garlic chives, but they never sprouted. I hope to add more when I've added more boxes, especially basil and oregano.

Re: What herbs are you growing this year??
My main concern about putting herbs in my SFG boxes is it gets 20-30 below zero here several times each winter. The mints I have in half whiskey barrels almost always freeze kill in them which I don't mind because I take a portion inside for window farming during the winter. Sure don't want to put a lot of herbs in my SFG if they will winter kill. Anybody else up north have experience with this to share. I apologize for this being a bit off topic but not totally so I hope.

Mallow root is very soothing for dry, irritated throats. When you soak the root in an infusion, it produces a substance that is kinda slick and slimy (like okra). It is good to gargle with or just to sip if you have an irritated gut.

Re: What herbs are you growing this year??
In my main garden (the SFG), we're growing:
Sage
Basil (Italian?) (2 squares)
Purple Basil
Rosemary
Parsley (2 squares)
Thyme
Oregano
Tarragon
Cilantro
Lovage
Borage
Chocolate Mint
Tansy
Chives
At home in pots:
Basil x2
Sage
Thyme
...plus whatever comes up of: oregano, chives, parsley, and cilantro.
...and maybe a dill a little bit away from everyone else.
In our community garden plot:
Nothing yet, though we'll probably put some dill in near where the fennel will be, since I think those two play nice together.
If the garden center has anything left this weekend in the < $2 range that go good with peppers (which are in 1/4 of the plot), squash/watermelons (another 1/4), or fennel (another 1/4), I might pick up something to transplant in.
Side note: If not for companion planting, I probably would not have planted tansy, borage, lovage, tarragon, chives, or thyme in the SFG. Though I'd still have the thyme in a pot at home. What do you do with borage and lovage, anyway?
If my wife didn't like cilantro I probably wouldn't have planted that either... Blech...
