Thanks, O.H. Memorial Day parades used to be common. It has become difficult to find even a ceremony these days.......
Re: I wanna KILL! KILL! KILL!
Local parade Sat 5/28, and my little town does put up flags along the two main streets.

Re: I wanna KILL! KILL! KILL!
By the way Gwynn... My DH used white vinegar in a spray bottle to kill our dandelions. Just sprayed it right into the middle of the base of each plant. Worked like a charm. There were some brown patches on the lawn for about a week until the grass recovered, but we definitely do not have as many dandelions on our front lawn.

Just plain white vinegar or did he use pickling vinegar? I will give that a try for sure.

WHAT?!? You mean it's that easy and I never knew it?
I was absolutely besieged by dandelions this year. Fuzz got all over my beds. We put a ton of woodchips down, and my husband advised putting tarps on top of the chips to kill anything that might try to poke thru. (Which they are.)
Forget that. I'm going out there with vinegar spray.

This is exactly what I did this year. Bye bye dandelions! Now, if the neighbor would just let me do their yard.....(no fences, seeds blow in freely)

Re: I wanna KILL! KILL! KILL!
No one is spraying my dandelions! They are not weeds I make dandelion jelly and my sister makes dandelion wine and we eat the greens in salads and feed them to pets. Grandkids make necklaces and my youngest one loves to blow the tops! And give NaNa a yellow nose! Yup, dandelions rule!

Oh Yea! Oh Yea! Sorry, I know most don't like dandelions. You should be around when our neighbor and I get fussed at by the other neighbor about the creeping charlie! We laugh and talk about how we know he lays awake at night just listening to it creep closer oh my I am a mean gardener!
I forgot about the roots for coffee...***note to self, go dig some up tomorrow, leaves to gerbil and roast the root***
Thanks middlemamma! I forgot about that thread!

Re: I wanna KILL! KILL! KILL!
I haven't sprayed ALL of my dandelions - I have left a few for eating and for making skin potions. Dandelion leaves steeped in oil makes a great agespot skin-lightening moisturizer. I have a 'dandy' little crop of organic dandies!

Re: I wanna KILL! KILL! KILL!
Wow - You all are making me look at my dandelions in a new light - haha. I do love their yellow, but I don't like their fuzz in my garden beds, threatening to take root over my veggies. Plus we can't eat them because my husband is allergic to grass, and for some reason dandelion greens set him off too - must be the same family. I'm only spraying the dandelions in my bed area.
As you can see from this photo before we put chips down:
