What's wrong with this tomato??
I got this tomato delivered from my CSA. It's been sitting on my windowsill for about a week. When I picked it up yesterday, I realized that it has something inside (a bunch of somethings actually) that look like they are ready to pop out of the skin. It's freaking me out , so I put it in a zipper bag to wait and see what happens. Anyone know what this is? They are all around the entire circumference of the tomato and hard to the touch.
I've got the heebie jeebies....

Re: What's wrong with this tomato??
I purchased some tomatoes (and did not eat them right away)
The seeds inside the tomatoe were actually germinating. When you cut the tomato, don't be suprised to find little baby plant seedling looking things.
Looks similar to mine.

Really? That would be hilarious! It still creeps me out. I may get my DH to cut into it for me. Big scaredy-cat here!!
If there are little seedlings in there, I wonder if they will grow into a plant. Hmmm...

Re: What's wrong with this tomato??
I wonder if after a while my tomato will look like this:
Or this:
I may try to grow a couple of sprouts to see what happens. I'll keep these plants away from the rest of my others though, just in case.

Look at that! You have your own seed starting station in a tomato

That is crazy cool! You should take regular pictures of your tomatoes progress. I'd love to see how it comes along.

I will take pics! Now that I have a good idea what it is, I will remove it from the ziploc bag. I'm still a little freaked out by it though.

LOL!!! Thanks for the warning Gwynn! I'm in a bungalow though. The kitchen is not that far away from my bedroom.

Okay, I have a dumb question...What does CSA stand for?
Canadian Space Agency?
Controlled Substance Act?
Canadian Scientific Abstracts?
Community Supported Agriculture?
Which one of the above might have given you this freaky tomato?
I've had tomatoes sprout on the inside before, especially if I leave them out on the counter too long. They also grow black-gray furry stuff. Ewwww.

Oops... sorry! That's the correct answer. We have veggies and eggs delivered from a local farm every 2 weeks and meat monthly all winter. It turned out pretty good. I'm not sure if we'll do it again though.
I wonder if I should send them a pic of my freaky tomato.

When I searched for the abbreviation on Google, there was a loooong list. I only picked the ones that might be related to a freaky tomato. I'm glad it wasn't one of the other three!

No, Don't cut it open.
Please, Please, let it continue to sprout and look like the pictures she found of the seed starter tomato.

Re: What's wrong with this tomato??
Oh. Ok.
I don't get it..how does it not rot and get all gross and moldy before it sprouts? The second pic looks like it is kinda rotten, but the first pic doesn't
Very cool though. Can you believe those little sprouts pop through the skin? Hmmm...interesting.
Sorry Furbalsmom...lol...thought we were cutting it open.

Re: What's wrong with this tomato??
Did I over react? Just a bit maybe? Sorry.
I just think it is so interesting that it is sprouting internally and would love to see what it looks like if the sprouts do come out through the skin. I cut mine open before the sprouts came through, and then tossed it. I did not think it would taste very good.
It could become all furry and gross and it is Blackrose's kitchen. She might not want to watch the whole process.
But, I do.

NO! It is interesting. I guess I was kinda half wondering/thinking if the pics were like a trick/joke.
Well if Blackrose can stand it I wanna see too. LOL

Re: What's wrong with this tomato??
You two are hilarious!!
I'm going to leave it for as long as I can stand it. If it gets too gross, I may just remove a couple of the sprouts and see if I can grow new tomato plants from them. We'll see how it goes. I may have to don a mask and gloves to cut it open and remove the sprouts if it gets to the gross stage.
I will update with pics regularly though.

What the???
That is freaky. Seriously freaky. Must be a genetically modified tomato. You should show it to the farmers that grew it and see what they say.

Blackrose, I've been dying to know what's going on with this tomato. Perhaps it's too soon and nothings happened, I just can't wait any longer :o) Hows your freaky little guy doing?
