Hi-

Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm afraid I don't have a whole lot to offer except enthusiasm and a love of home grown tomatoes. My mom used to garden next to our rented apartment when I was little--what I remember most was the home grown tomatoes, weeding, weeding, and more weeding. I also remember my mom learning which weeds were edible so that we could supplement our very small food budget--we did not garden as a hobby.

I stumbled into this method at the book store--I was referred by a fellow shopper who raised vegetables to sell at the local farmers market. I feel SO lucky to have discovered this method so quickly and look forward to what I can learn from all of you!

What varieties of tomatoes did you grow?

Sorry--I have no idea. But the man at the book store recommended the "heirloom" varieties.

I always loved that drink, Moxie. I still drink it with 1/4 to 1/3 milk in it.
Like LaVerne of Laverne and Shirley with her Pepsi and milk only mine is Moxie and milk.

You'll find lots of help here when you have questions.

Hi Moxi, so glad you found us. My garden is no hobby, well not all hobby and there is a great website for us down here called eat the weeds so I know where you are coming from. Sounds like your Mom is a smart woman. Try to contact your local agriculture extention office they are a great resorce as to which kinds of each vegetable does best in your area and when the best time for planting them.

I'd say enthusiasm and a love of tomatoes is quite a lot to offer!

I hope you decide to set a spell with us. I can already tell you'll be a great addition to the SFG family. Did you buy the book while you were at the store? That book is invaluable tool. It is amazing how much it comes in handy. The great thing about SFG is that gardening can be both a necessity and a hobby. I always try to make even everything I do fun otherwise it is so difficult to get it done.

Have you started planning your SFG? Do you know how many beds and what you will plant in them? There is a thread on tomatoes that might be of interest, check it out: https://squarefoot.forumotion.com/t5187-2011-tomatoes-wha-cha-growin . There's 7 pages of tomato-ey goodness in that thread. I bet that will give you some ideas of what to grow.

Also, please check out your regional forums. The regional forums are a great place to find region specific information, ask regional questions, and just get to know folks in your area. That might be a great place to ask about which tomatoes folks are growing successfully in your area.
