Newbie in GA
I am going to start my SFG in January. I am retiring and want to add SFG to my list of I want to do's. I have never been able to grow anything except peppers and I hate weeding. I grow the peppers in a small SFG I had about 18 years ago. My new hubbie has tried to grow a garden these pass 3 years and he's really good about it, till the weeds start comming in. Then in goes to weeds. I am not into pulling weeds. He will build it and I will try growing other things besides peppers.

if you don't like weeds, you'll love SFG. I have about 170 "squares". For the past month, I've probably pulled 10 weeds, about the size of an aspirin. I pulled these weeds with two fingers. Took about 20 seconds total?? The only weeds you get are the ones that blow in and germinate. The soil is so loose, they literally "slip out" of the soil. The plants are spaced so you can tell easily who "doesn't belong" in the square! Hoping my new soil keeps going well!! good luck and give it a try!!

Since you don't like weeding, put legs on your boxes 28 to 30 inches high for bush plants. This way there is no bending over. While you go out to abmire your garden with a cup of coffee, pull them young and toss 'em over your shoulder!

So glad you joined us. Have you read ALL NEW SQUARE FOOT GARDENING yet? This is a real change from the original Square Foot Gardening Method you used in the past.
If you have not read the newer book, please do so immediately. It will give you the SFG you are looking for. The soiless Mel's Mix is just what you need to avoid those nasty weeds.
I also have a Table Top garden which allows me to garden without bending over.
Enjoy, and plase keep us posted on your progress.

Re: Newbie in GA
I have read some of it, I am in the process of finishing the book. I want several small one and one deep one for potatoes and carrots. I think I need to start my composting now though.
