I've had a few make it inside the door, only to be rinsed off and eaten, before my kids caught me.

Oh, congratulations ...... on both successes: strawberries and son. What a delight. Ashort, that's why I planted 50 new strawberry plants this year, somehow, someway, we will get some berries into the house!

We've had a few more strawberries ripen and I think I've turned into a lunatic. I managed to see a squirrel attempt to grab my daughter's lone strawberry at almost peak picking time. I ran, like a madwoman to the door, let the dogs out, and we saved the berry! I have left the dogs out as our garden sentrys for now.

I finally received my book and I am feeling a bit nervous that I may have missed the planting time for this area. Everyone else is already starting to harvest and I wonder if it will get too hot for my poor babies before they are able to produce for us. Any advice or is this just part of the learning curve.

We planted April 1st, but I'm not sure the plants were big enough.

After spending 300.00 at the grocery store again last night (for 4 days of food), I am praying we can grow some of our produce. As a vegan, produce is very expensive and as you know, eating healthy costs more.

I plan to post some pictures of our beds progress in a little bit.

You may have missed the cool weather crops, but you are still in time for the warm weather stuff. Tomatos, beans, okra, squash, cukes, edame. You may even get a crop of kale and chard started that will carry through the summer. I know that collards are recommended as a fall crop, but I've always had them as a summer crop in zone 8. They just taste better after a frost.
