I've been sfg-ing two years; this will be year three. I have really enjoyed the sfg method; I'm starting to add crop rotation to my planting schematic. I have appx 200 squares in two beds. I pulled 140' of time-consuming non-productive hedges that will make way for auxilliary gardens along my property line. Even then, I still don't think I have enough room to plant all that I want!

Hi there WELCOME...
I am curious
Do you find SFG productive, are all your crops productive?

Another North Dakotan joining the party! Empty SFG success

Post  Carleen 4/9/2012, 11:35 pm

I have had mostly great success; the less successful could be chalked up to either operator error or furry-tailed invader.

I can't say that I have had a negative crop at all. I grow peas, beans, radishes, turnips, carrots, parsnips, okra, zucchini, popcorn, tomatoes, asparagus, kohlrabi, peppers, lettuce, spinach, sweet potato, and it has all produced well. I am trying a few new crops this year and I'm moving some stuff out of the garden (zucchini) to different areas. It really is an easy (almost lazy) method of gardening; I will spend about two hours over the entire summer weeding it. I love that everything is in a grid. I stake down soaker hoses at the beginning of the year and leave the rest to Mother Nature.
