SNOW is a Four Letter Word
It is official, winter is just about here. The past couple of days, we've had some snow flurrries. We're having frosts on a regular basis as well.
I think I'm going to dig up all of the plants that are no longer growing and put them in the compost. Time to build my new boxes and fill them so they're ready for the spring too. So much to do!
I want summer back.
Or maybe I need to move to Florida.... Hmmmm...

Life in the southern U.S. is WONDERFUL we are still picking tomato's okra and peppers, 85 deg days and 65 deg nights with maybe two freezes a year. But then again we have $300 electric bills when its 105 deg day and 104dEG NIGHTS

I miss Florida! I was there last month for a trip to WDW and I didn't want to leave. The whole time we were there, we were trying to figure out a way to stay. LOL!
I guess it's just inevitable that the snow will fall and I will have to wait until spring to garden again. Time for my long winters nap.

Re: SNOW is a Four Letter Word
WoW!!! You got snow before I did! That is amazing. It has been raining here most of the week so the temperatures have been above freezing all week. My strawberries are still blooming so I put a plexi-glass cover over the square they are in. We will see what happens.
And yes......SNOW is a dirty four letter word!! I want summer back too.

Re: SNOW is a Four Letter Word
I was suprised too! We don't usually start getting a lot of frosts and snow until at least November. Just 30 minutes north of here they even had enough snow for the kids to make snowmen in the school yards. We didn't get that much and I think it all melted by the end of the day.
I guess I'll have to bundle the kids up good for Trick or Treating this year.

I can't wait for the snow....ya'll can send me yours k?
I have dreamed of living somewhere where there are 4 seasons my whole life and we moved here (Idaho) last June (from Arizona) only for it to be the warmest/driest winter in decades...lol. My kids didn't even get to make 1 snowman!
I outfitted them with snow boots in OCT and by FEB they were still stomping around in them but yelling how I lied to them! LOL
We can't WAIT! I may even throw some snow balls! I will post a pic for you guys! LOL

Re: SNOW is a Four Letter Word
I will gladly send you some! My oldest daughter and her four kids live in Vancouver. The kids are so excited if they get snow there. Some winters they don't get any and they are always so disappointed. I used to love the winters, but my DH struggles with depression in the winter (SADS) and my thyroid issue has made me super sensitive to the cold so it has gotten to where I just don't look forward to it anymore. It does LOOK very pretty though. I just get tired of shovelling snow and scraping windshields and worrying about road conditions when we travel.
I DO have to have snow for Christmas but after New year's it can go! LOL!
Hope you get your snow this year. My brothers used to race sled dogs and always spent some time in Idaho on the dog racing circuit. Some time, if there are races in your area, you should go watch them.

Well you know that Canadian kids always have to have Halloween costumes big enough to fit over snow suits.

Re: SNOW is a Four Letter Word
WOW...I thought they only did that in Alaska...cool. My kids would love to see something like that. Thanks for the tip!
I hope we get snow this year too. If for no other reason than hubby hasn't had work since January and if it snowed he could at least shovel some roofs for a few weeks. He's going crazy without work and it would be awesome if he found work. Even temporary work.

+1 to that! I would be happy if we got a nice snowfall on Christmas Eve and then it melted on Boxing Day.

We lived in the Yukon for years and my brothers have raced for at least 30 years. The sled dog circuit is wherever they have snow! Of course, in Alaska, Yukon Territory Canada and former Northwest Territory where we have snow 10 months of the year it is pretty common but my brothers have raced in Washington, Utah, Montana, Idaho and North Dakota so there are some crazies no matter where you go. LOL! Here's a link to sled dog racing in Idaho. Perhaps you can find something close to you. http://www.americandogderby.org/
And I will pray for snow for you and a job for DH.

Re: SNOW is a Four Letter Word
When I was growing up in NH and Maine, it was not uncommon at all to wear Halloween costumes over heavy winter coats and boots. We often had snow by then.
Re: SNOW is a Four Letter Word
Living in Maine, we get our share of snow and ice. Right now we got our first frost of the year last nite, which is late. No snow yet. I hibernate in the winter with my quilting and make spring garden plans and browse thru seed catalogs and dream of spring. My family love skiing and snowboarding. I keep the home fires burning.
I don't mind the snow because here we call it the poor man's fertilizer.
These are my nine beds last Feb.

Re: SNOW is a Four Letter Word
LOL, I almost did! But, uh, I sadly am from the US, tho 3 hours to the border, I am so close, eh? The Canadian National Anthem is my favorite! I am confirmed hockey lover, I played defense until 2 years ago (I was the leader in penalty minutes on my team). I know what a Looney is and I am never without duct tape. I draw the line at Poutine.

Wow, you are a better Canadian than I am! I HATE hockey! If you know the Canadian national anthem you are doing better than most Canadians. They keep changing the words on us so as not to offend anyone so that is why we all just get through the first line with great enthusiasm, mumble along on most of the rest and then start cheering that it is finished when we get to the final two lines. My daycare kids used to call it the "hockey song"! LOL!
I think Poutine actually is French Canadian and was only introduced to Canadian cuisine a few years ago along with French Immersion schools and Flocons de Mais on the cereal boxes as concessions to Quebec to keep them from separating from the rest of Canada.
