About how many square feet of SFG space do you have?
I was just curious about this. If I had to do it all over again, and if I had heard of SFG at the time, I would have devoted about half of my traditional garden space to SFG. Still, I like my regular flower garden. Anyway, I have...(please do not laugh)...

Re: About how many square feet of SFG space do you have?
I built 122 sq feet of vegetable garden space this year & undoubtedly I will build more for next year.
Re: About how many square feet of SFG space do you have?
I built 59 square feet this year, not counting a number of separate containers. Next year I get to do it again.
Re: About how many square feet of SFG space do you have?
But are you going to move it to the back yard Megan?
Re: About how many square feet of SFG space do you have?
Move operations to the backyard, yes. Most of it anyway... I still intend to sneak a few things into the front yard. But the MM itself, I'll leave in place. I'll just have to re-mix and make new boxes for next year. I still am concerned about the shade but I'm going to make a go of it. There's actually a bit more room back there, so who knows. They will have to be true SFG boxes, though... the ground back there is solid tree roots.
Re: About how many square feet of SFG space do you have?
112 total sq ft:
I planned it that way to maximize north side squares for trellises --all but 4 boxes have a trellis. The spouse figured out the boxes to maximize the wood cuts. :->

352 square feet of SFG around the home within the past two years ( not counting greenhouse beds which are 591 sq ft but recon that don't count cause it is for profit.) Will do more around the home between now and Spring.
It doesn't matter how little you have---what matters is----Being happy at what you are doing.

Dang, Carolyn. I daresay you could start up a rampicante farm with that much space!
Re: About how many square feet of SFG space do you have?
I normally grow Giant Pumpkins but not in a SFG

Re: About how many square feet of SFG space do you have?
I have seven 4x4 SFG boxes as well as my tomato bed out front, a potato patch of unknown size, a 2x6 cold frame, several flower beds and loads of containers of various sizes. Bit by bit I am going to switch more things to MM but for now have just been able to amend the soil instead of using TRUE MM.

Here's a diagram of my SFG. Wherever you see text there is a trellis on that side. I actually put trellises on the south side boxes since the garden truly is ideally situated for maximum sun. I trimmed off much of the lower leaves, so shading of the rest of the box was not a problem. The 2 x 2 boxes are for bush-type squash, although one of them now has Chinese greens in it.

Very interesting! Thank you for sharing that, pattipan.
Re: About how many square feet of SFG space do you have?
I put in 32 square this year (4 x 8 ) because this was my "let's see if this works" year.
Next year I'm planning another 32....after that? Who knows!

Oops, I forgot to count something...
I also have a 2 x 4 box right outside my kitchen door against a privacy fence. It has 4 "early" determinate tomatoes, parsley and lettuces. Then there are my strawberries and herbs...in various size pots and crates of Mel's Mix. So really I have 120 square feet + the pots.

Re: About how many square feet of SFG space do you have?
Ooh!! You just reminded me that I can put some of strawberries into the SFG now. Wonder if it's a good time to transplant, though.
Re: About how many square feet of SFG space do you have?
I have 48 square feet, with no more half-way sunny space to add additional boxes.
Re: About how many square feet of SFG space do you have?
I have 46 squares scattered among 8 boxes. Mostly 4X4 and a couple of oddballs.
Re: About how many square feet of SFG do you have?
Like Megan, I have to deal with HOA rules.
I have 32 square feet of SFG plus 10 self watering pots that I can integrate into the landscape.
Next year, I'll add a few more SW pots - because I don't have any more space I can add another SFG.

I have 32, but almost 6 are all but useless cause DH has a dead truck blocking off the sun!! I'm experimenting with different things there to find something that grows in the shade..

Fill the truck bed with Mel's mix and plant it! Tell him thanks for the new growing box... That's got to be at least another 24-32 feet, right?

+1 If the truck has been sitting there that long, it probably has weeds and grass growing in the nooks and crannies anyhow!
