How Many Square Feet Do You Have?
If all goes according to plan, I will have 354 squares Spring 2012. As of now, I have 282.
A certain board member is giving me the tiniest of hard times because I said that with the 354, I'll have all I need.
So, before you tell me how many you have, keep in mind that this post is much closer to a confession than a brag!

Great topic. I thought about posting it once! We have 182, and feel that's pretty good for us.

Re: How Many Square Feet Do You Have?
Math is defintely not my strong suit, but I have 5 4X4s, so wouldn't that be 80 square feet?
Really, BBG? I have more square feet (garden wise) than you do?

Yup. It's not the size of the pen.....it's how you sign your name.
One 4x12 and one 2x8. 48+16=64. I thought I'd add more, but I'm good for now. Although, next year when I load it with spring carrots, I may change my mind. But, to maximize, I may use my carrots as gridwork.

I think at last count I had around 200....with the TT I guess I have 216. We have been discussing if we would like more. I may have room for one more 4x8.
Re: How Many Square Feet Do You Have?
I am at 335 squares and have no plans for expansion. (At least that is what I told myself.)

Since Autumn 2010:
One 4x8 = 32sft
Two 4x4 = 32sft
Total of 64sft
2012 plans include one tt and an arbor = tbd

Re: How Many Square Feet Do You Have?
I have 96 at my house and plan to add 64 more. Seems silly because it is just me and the 64 gave me plenty in the spring garden. But I didn't get enough sugar snaps and I don't know how much a summer garden will produce and I want a dedicated strawberry bed. Also, 16 are tied up in garlic now and not available for spring, Besides I have 4 more kits left from a sale a year ago.
The beds at my son's house are currently 64 in pond beds and 32 in regular beds. He also had peppers and some tomatos in pots. He wants to add 80 more pond bed. He wants a dedicated strawberry bed as well. He has 4 kids and the extra sq ft can be put to use.
Since I usually do all the planting, that will give me 336 to dabble in.

Re: How Many Square Feet Do You Have?
5 4x8=160 plus
1 4x4= 16
That makes 176 right now, with
3 4x8=96 for asparagus plus
2 2x8=32 going in in February
That's 128 more so I'll have 304 in veggies.
Whew! I hadn't added it up before. Thanks for the prod!

Re: How Many Square Feet Do You Have?
Currently 149 158 official boxed feet:
3 4x6 = 72
4 3x4 = 48
1 1x12 dedicated to asparagus
16 feet bricked in an L shape cornering the house
1 1x1 was for Carrot Week, now a beautiful daylily at the center of
the 4x3's
OOPS - almost forgot the 3x3 that I didn't convert to MM last year
that is now boxed and ready!
With several individual perennial herb boxes planned for spring in an area that is 7x10 with one corner curved off and unavailable - guessing 55+ sq ft to plan scattering some little 1x1 and 1x2 boxes throughout.
Hubby thinks I am officially off my rocker.....

Okay, I know I'm at the low end of the scale, but only 64 in true SFG format. I also have another 20 in containers, tho.

Re: How Many Square Feet Do You Have?
I'm with Janezee, I've never added it up before what ever it is, it never seems like enough. It started one spring with one 4x4. That is when the attitude of "I could use just one more" started.
3 4x4's = 48
2 4x8's = 64 + 2 new 4x8's (one holds my chicken tractor and one is not quite full of mix yet) for 64 more
Plan for one more 4x8 this summer (if there is any money for more mix)
I guess that makes 112 for sure with about 96 more possible (ie already built but not quite full yet) for a total of 208?
There is also an herb garden, strawberries in a 2x8 (forgot about that one), an asparagus bed, 4 fruit trees big pots of MM, big pot of comfrey in MM and containers of MM for determinant tomatoes, blueberries, raspberries, potatoes, pumpkins, zucchini, melons, cucumbers and winter squash (vines grow from containers up the sides of the chicken run) as well as an in-ground apple tree, logan berry and marian berry.
Debs....thinking none of it matters in December when a girl gets too busy in August to start a winter garden

I have 2 4x8 so I have 64sqft. Am thinking of putting in an asperagus bed so what is a good size and do deer like them?

Re: How Many Square Feet Do You Have?
Currently I have 128 square feet. Hopefully by spring planting I will have 176. I'd love more, but there is just no place to put more except the front yard....which might happen eventually.

Oh, that's plenty....to start.... ......
Just kidding! Not everyone has to go down this dangerous road of more...and more...and more.....

Re: How Many Square Feet Do You Have?
Three 4x4s = 48 sf
I'd have more if I had a larger yard and more sunlight....
But I'm moving to Oregon in a year or so, and the yard IS bigger and sunnier.

Hoping to start in Spring with 4-2 x 4, or 32 sf. It's just me and it's my first year, so I want to start out slowly and be sure I get the basics down before expanding.

Very smart. As a matter of fact, Mel recommends this approach. Wait a minute...
...maybe that's not a coincidence!

I started with 16 squares, second year I had 32 squares and this current year I had 48 squares. I have wood cut for several more 4x4s but currently using them for my compost piles. I am wary of eventually having too many and no doubt one day I will have to downsize whatever I am doing in the yard. But what the heck, I am going to be active until I am 110.
