Wow! September is ALWAYS the hottest month. Because of that I was in no rush to get my fall things in. At the same time the summer things were finishing their run so it is slim pickings for the moment - but still not bad at all!

Celery seedlings - they have been like this for weeks and took weeks to sprout. I think they are going to make carrots look like overacheivers. So Cal October Update - chime in! Update15

Carrots, beats and crazy beans - I definitely overplanted beans. THERE ARE SO MANY OF THEM!

Looks like I will still be able to harvest some zucchini and peppers. So Cal October Update - chime in! Update17

The eggplant will be ready this week, and I have another plant that is coming along - two actually. Planted at the same time next to each other in the same bed and one is three times the size of the other - both from the same seed packet. So Cal October Update - chime in! Update20

Let me know how your summer/fall transition is going.

Lol!. It is definitely a hill. And if I ever wonder I just have to peek at the mountains in the distance. Hehe.

Please identify that spider! It looks like one I found in my garden about three years ago. And how does it benefit the garden? By devouring other bugs?

Thanks in advance for the info.

I have no idea. I did look online and the closest thing I could find is an 'orb weaver' but I am not sure. I know it isn't a wolf spider or a black widow.

Yes, since spiders eat bugs I figure I will take all the help I can get. Until one bites me and then I wipe them out... hey, I'm no saint...

Thanks for the update. I love seeing pics of other gardens.

I was especially encouraged by your picture of the celery sprouts. My father had a row garden over a year ago where he sowed celery seed which "never sprouted." I put in my SFG in the same spot in April and while we were weeding it, I found a very green food-like weed. On closer inspection it was celery! It must have taken all of the winter to get somewhat established (remember how much rain we had this past winter?) I transplanted it and we have been cutting stalks off of it ever since. I like having celery on hand so much I planted 4 more but they are taking longer to sprout than any other seeds. I was beginning to think I should give up on celery. Maybe I should just be very patient. bounce

I don't have pictures but we did pull out our summer veggies and plant for fall last weekend. Can't wait for homegrown broccoli. I also put in a round of summer squash and cucumbers just to see if we'd get anything. I've read we can plant summer veggies in September around here since we rarely get frost. We'll see.

Happy Gardening and thanks again for the encouraging pics!
