Peppers and/or eggplants via direct seeding
Anyone tried direct seeding for peppers/eggplants?
I know every site in the world wide web is saying they need to be started indoors, but I am planting late, the ground is very very warm, and since I am not planning on being super successful this year due to late start, I'd love to experiment. So, if anyone did this, please let me know, I am very interested in your experience.

Re: Peppers and/or eggplants via direct seeding
I've direct planted hot peppers with medium success. By the time they were large enough to have blossoms, it was too hot for them to set many. They did set some in the early fall but an early frost got them before I got much harvest. Did get a few, but not enough to try it again. Now I start tomatoes, peppers and eggplant in the house so they can get a head start.

No, not against, but my curiosity is stronger than my common sense

I say go for it-experimenting is half the fun of gardening for me. You never know, your weather might be perfect this year for what you have in mind.
Last year I tried several supplemental heating methods for toms and peppers. We ended up having one of the hottest summers on record!
So this year, I'm trying an all-shade box for cool crops. So far, it's been so cool that I'm thinking about not planting corn (my garden favorite) this year!
On second thought, maybe you shouldn't consider my advice!
