Radishes and turnips
Neither my radishes nor turnips bulbed so i must be missing something in my mix. If the radishes bolt and flower, it’s too late for bulbs, right? I should just feed the greens to my tortoise.

Re: Radishes and turnips
If they are not summer radishes, such as the Sora Radish, and they are planted too late so that they are in the hot weather, they will bolt to seed instead of forming a root. If yours have already bolted, you can pull them and compost them or feed them to the greens lovers.

Re: Radishes and turnips
Hi Emily, radishes and turnips are cool weather veggies. You will have an opportunity to plant them in Fall, which is usually seeded in early to mid August. Honestly, sometimes Fall is a nicer season to grow those veggies!
What varieties are you trying this year?

The thing is, I planted back around mother's day. They should have been fine after the first week of June. My varieties are cherry belle and Salad Rose. Salad Rose are supposed to be long ones and take 35 days. I tried again on July 7 but haven't really checked up on them. It's been too hot.
My Planting by Color guide says you can try radish and even lettuce again at , but I'm skeptical. Maybe there are hot weather varieties and it doesn't specify variety.
This is the time of year that my garden turns wild because I don't take to the heat. 3rd week in July started early this year.

My old normal garden at my former country home literally had the Guns N Roses “Welcome to the Jungle” song playing end of July through the end of the season. I took my life in my hands trying to find plants! That’s the beauty of SFG!!
