Re: Regarding CountryNaturals and the Fire
So, not the Hirz Fire? Hope what ever was burning is OUT. Ken has mended enough to wash the solar panels. They are especially nasty this year with the smoke. I can't believe that you get your house washed and then there is another fire dumping ash again. Sort of like washing the car and then it rains.

CN just can't catch a break this summer. The I-5 is the main north-south highway from the Mexican border to the Canadian border. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/fast-moving-fire-erupts-north-of-redding-shutting-down-interstate-5/ar-BBMVGoC?li=BBnb7Kz

Re: Regarding CountryNaturals and the Fire
Now the 2 fires have merged, with still no containment on the new one. I don't know if that's good or bad. I do know that it means foul, smoky air for the for the foreseeable future. At least we're in no danger from this one -- it's north of us and burning north. At night, the winds shift and bring the smoke back down to us.
Ask me if I'm SICK OF THIS!

Re: Regarding CountryNaturals and the Fire
I KNOW you are sick of it. I'm sick of it when the winds bring the smoke all the way down here 100s of miles. I can do without the pink sunrises, no matter how beautiful they are!
Re: Regarding CountryNaturals and the Fire
CN and Sanderson,
They're calling it "clouds" here in Bend, but I see it as haze, possibly smoke.
The more precipitation during winter and spring, the more vegetation growth, and California's typically dry conditions in summer invite lightening, arson, and other human-caused sparks to cause conflagrations.

Re: Regarding CountryNaturals and the Fire
This new fire is bringing us the worst smoke yet. I had to wear a mask to get the newspaper this morning. The sky is yellow/gray in all directions. There's no way to tell which way the sun hangs.
Re: Regarding CountryNaturals and the Fire
An update on the Fires affecting Suz. The Carr Fire was the one that forced evacuations, the largest in CA history. It may be hard to see, but I placed the + / - magnifying glass near Suz's home, right above the circle designating Redding City. The Hirz Fire started up towards the end of the Carr Fire. Then the Delta Fire Started a few days ago near I-5 freeway and you can see it reached over to the Hirz Fire and they are now holding hands.

My thoughts are with you both, CN and Sanderson, as well as everyone else effected by the wildfires. I can't imagine living in a cloud of smoke for weeks on end.

While I have been affected, it's CN that has been brutalized!

I'm starting to get a better understanding of the term "house arrest."

There are signs all over town thanking the firefighters and first responders. One story that made the news was a guy who lost his house, and when he was finally allowed back in, assumed that his chickens were gone too, but . . . not only did his chickens survive, but the firefighters had been feeding them.
Re: Regarding CountryNaturals and the Fire
One year ago today, at about this time, we were preparing to evacuate, while telling ourselves the Carr fire could never cross the river and everything was going to be just fine. All week long, the news has been covering horror stories and survival stories from last year. We never expected something even worse -- the Camp fire -- would be coming soon.countrynaturals wrote: They are now saying the wind gusts reached 75 mph. It's a miracle we survived. I don't know what saved us, but somehow the flames were diverted and never reached our property. I am having trouble processing this info.
Re: Regarding CountryNaturals and the Fire
Deja vu! Smoke from an Oregon fire is blanketing our valley. It's a nasty reminder of last year.
Re: Regarding CountryNaturals and the Fire
With the wet spring many of us had, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there won't be many such fires.
Also, now that more attention is being given to forest management, There's a possibility that fire damage will begin to be minimized. Stay safe!

Re: Regarding CountryNaturals and the Fire
Because of the recent fires, our immediate threat is from the insurance companies, They are either dropping clients or charging insurance premiums to some people in nearby areas much as $48,000 a year. I am fortunate that I live within a rural fire district boundary that is designated within a "insurable protection class", but two blocks down from my house, the area has been declared a high risk because of it's rated particularly high in "population-to-evacuation ratio". Lots of folk's mortgages require insurance and I don't think they are sleeping at night now, worrying if they will be able to afford the premiums. Can you imagine losing your house to a mortgage company instead of a fire?

For some people, it's their fault, for not cutting trees!Yardslave wrote:Because of the recent fires, our immediate threat is from the insurance companies, They are either dropping clients or charging insurance premiums to some people in nearby areas much as $48,000 a year. And over here, in Vermont, I see trees too close to power lines!
