First Baby Butterhead Lettuce Harvest!
Harvested some butterhead lettuce leaves today for my season's first "official" salad! I say official because I grew some indoors a couple of months ago, and while it tasted deliciously buttery, it was leggy and small. Pics below of today's harvest. I haven't eaten it yet, but will be shortly!

T'was a tad bitter but delicious otherwise! I didn't notice the bitterness, my wife did, but I think we had a few warmer than normal days, and my terrace is a microclimate with the ground and walls absorbing heat. All in all, I was very happy with it!

It's so exciting have your first salad from the garden, isn't it? I like that you left the middles so they will keep growing. Do you have shade cover for those hot days?
My lettuce box gets afternoon shade from overhead pines. Not the best shade cover since I end up chewing on a missed pine needle here and there, but it works out.

It definitely is, CapeCoddess! And yeah, I made sure to only harvest the outer leaves. :-)
I don't have shade cover, but the terrace faces east so I avoid that harsh afternoon sun. I've got some tall tomato plants in containers that I can move around to give shade to the lettuce if needed though!
