Broccoli is dissapearing
I have my broccoli caged in, but something has dug a tunnel into them. Not much left. It happens at night, because there is new damage every day. I'm not sure what creature is doing it. Mice?

Moles or voles is my first guess. What is in the bottom of your boxes? Oh, and hey! Welcome!

I'll agree with SR on voles (also known as 'meadow mice'.)
but not moles. Moles will tunnel and can muck up plantings in the process 'by accident', but I'm pretty sure they don't eat broccoli - they eat worms mostly.

Thanks! Bottom is earth, no wire or anything. Got away with it for 4 years, but not any more. They found me! Down with the voles! This means WAR.Scorpio Rising wrote:Moles or voles is my first guess. What is in the bottom of your boxes? Oh, and hey! Welcome!

Ouch! For voles, my understanding is to put down 1/4" - 1/2" hardware cloth beneath each bed. That's what I did for my new strawberry beds this spring, and expect to follow up with the potato beds, some of which are being re-located.
