Weather in Gilbert, AZ
Sanderson, I'm in Gilbert, which is SE of Phoenix, but part of the greater Phoenix metro area. When I moved here, it was still semi-rural and cooler than Phoenix. No more! We are fully urban now. I do have an interesting difference between my front and back yards, so in my garden journal, I notate like this:
Tues Nov 7th Weather in Gilbert, AZ
Not a lot of difference yesterday with the overcast. But look at the day before, which is more typical:
Mon Nov 6th:

How's the Weather Where You're At?
We've been on a roller coaster ride down here with the weather the other day it hit 92 in my back yard, today another Cold Snap suppose to be 62 for a High and 47 for the Low. But I harvested my last Watermelon so I'm looking forward to enjoying that

Although it should be snowing at these temps, and with precipitation falling, the forecast is for freezing rain. I suspect that there's a temperature inversion at work.
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
It's gone crazy here in South Wales UK.
I was down by our big oak three days ago getting a wash from the sky big time , today it is 14 oC the sun is shining . When I fed the fish in the pond by the big oak this morning I noticed that the hazel nut coppicings are covered in light green new catkins about an inch long ... they weren't there three days ago .

First taste of winter-like conditions starting this evening with rain, freezing rain, snow, 70 km/hr wind gusts and -11C temperature. Yeuk!

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Today, we set another weather record here in Ottawa, Canada. This one is for the coldest November 10 on record. This morning the temperature was -11C (12F) and with the windchill it feels like -22C (-8F). We just keep setting new records ... annual snowfall, annual rainfall, most rain in a day, hottest/coldest days, etc. It seems like all historical averages are being thrown out of the window.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Low in the backyard last night was 9*F (-12.8*C)... It didn't get this cold until a month later last year.
I got most of the things brought in that I meant to. I forgot the tansy pot and I realized as I was reading CC's post - the hoses. And one trellis is 'stuck' because there is a kale that grew through the netting and I missed it or thought "oh, that's cute" and didn't think ahead to wanting to take the trellis down.
I got a lot of things covered, but I ran out of covers/time/energy and left some plants bare... as experiments, yes.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Absolutely gorgeous, here. This is our 2nd day without rain. It's still too wet to do anything outside, but now they're saying no rain until Monday, so maybe I can rake leaves, turn compost, and move chips tomorrow and Sunday. Fingers crossed.
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Freezing rain and up to 4 inches of snow expected in Ottawa. Thankfully we are away so we will not be directly affected by this storm. Hopefully there will be no damage.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Crazy, crazy weather.
Snow on the ground. Freezing cold. Just got back from putting gas in one of the cars and just about froze to death while standing at the pump.
Current temperature this afternoon is -8C (that is 18F). Overnight will be -11C (12F). Now here comes the weird part. The forecast high for tomorrow is +10 C (that's 50F). How ridiculous is that? We are getting climate change in less than 24 hours!

Well It's finally starting to cool off, today there calling for 83* and 58* Haven't had any rain in about a month and the rain barrels are starting to get low guess I'll have to increase the stowage capacity.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Environment Canada really missed the mark on their +10C (50F) forecast for today. The best we could do was about +2C (36F). Winter weather is really settling in. Time to think about indoor gardening such as various microgreens and some AeroGraden herbs.trolleydriver wrote:Crazy, crazy weather.

Off the hook here
86 degrees this afternoon. They just announced that November was the warmest ever in Phoenix. Hello La Nina!
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
We have at least 10 more days of perfect gardening weather ahead. I should be able to get everything done to be ready for winter.
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Liz, Are you enjoying tomatoes right now? If so, what varieties to you grow in AZ?
Suz, Make hay will the sun shines! Don't have that dreaded "procrastination syndrome" like I tend to get. The freeze expected tonight and tomorrow night will probably do in my tomato plants so I can finish clearing that amended dirt strip. With the freeze, the leaves in the neighborhood should also start dropping and we can scavenge the neighbors' lawns.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
No procrastination, here. I'm just waiting for it to warm enough to go outside. It got down to 35 here last night. We have 10 gorgeous days in the forecast, so I have plenty of time to get it all done.sanderson wrote:Suz, Make hay will the sun shines!
