Mix for making soil blocks
I've decided to start using soil blocks.
Has anyone used Mel's mix to make these, or do I need to add more to it?
Thanks

Re: Mix for making soil blocks
I've tried and it seems like it works ok for the larger soil blockers...not so much for the tiny soil blockers.

I have had the 2"inch and the 3/4 inch for two years and so far I have made a complete hash of it.

Me too. I used them the first year I bought them and tried the next year and I could not get the consistency correct. Either too mushy are too dry and falling apart. And they kept sticking to the blockers. I am sure if I took the time I could get them to work consistently, but I always wait until the last minute to plant. Also, I have boxes and boxes of small plastic pots just waiting to be filled.Kelejan wrote:I have had the 2"inch and the 3/4 inch for two years and so far I have made a complete hash of it.

Re: Mix for making soil blocks
I looked into the possibility of using them last winter/spring and came to the conclusion that the I could not justify the cost of the molds based on my small "operation". I just used whatever I had at hand, plastic cups, jiffy pots, egg containers, etc. I used store bought starter mix for the seeds and I also used Mel's Mix in the "pots" especially for the seedlings and for some seed starting.yolos wrote:Me too.
