Soil blocks

I have always used those Jiffy pellets for seed starting, with fairly good results. However, I am limited with space to grow many seedlings. With the Jiffy pellets I hated when something wouldn't germinate, because I felt like I wasted that 'space' in the tray. I have been thinking about trying my hand at those seed blocks, where I can grow multiples of certain things that may not germinate well in those itty bitty blocks and up-pot to bigger blocks or containers. It's a fairly big investment for the seed block makers, so before I take the plunge I thought I'd see what others do. I tried searching soil blocks on the forum and didn't see anything in the first few pages.

We have discussed them in the past. I have made them using a tomato paste can with good success. Easier though is the soil block maker. I like them a lot, plants grow better in them than in the jiffy pellets or pots, at least for me.

Did you see this thread below? Also, look up Johnny's seed catalog, seed blocks and soil less medium are available there. Another option is looking up ways to make your own soil less mix. Some folks simply start seeds in mels mix too. When I started I bought the soil blockers and growing medium from Johnny's. But I am going to move away from buying their soil less medium, a personal choice to get it done less expensively. Some people make paper pots, there's all kinds of ways to get started. Its a little process to discover what agrees with your personal choice of method, time, and budget. In the end, you have the satisfaction of plants you grew from seed. First, I would start with this:
