'Scrapes' in veggies? Empty 'Scrapes' in veggies?

Post  CapeCoddess 9/18/2016, 8:47 am

I want to save seeds from this tromboncino squash and this heirloom cucumber this year but they have these strange tan markings on them. I'm wondering if it's a disease in which case I would not save the seeds, or have they been blowing against the trellis netting and the peel is being scraped off, or what the heck is it? Anyone know?

The fruits growing on the ground don't have that.

I can't find anything definitive, CC.  I think to be safe I would use the plants that don't show the discoloration for seed saving.  Weird.

I tried researching, also.  Came across this intentional scarring. 'Scrapes' in veggies? Pimpki10
