Is anyone growing anything "new"? Either a totally new veggie OR a new variety?

I am not growing anything new, but I am hoping I won't have to replant my bed with new seedlings after the 19 degree F low next week.

Both. I'm growing brussel sprouts this year for the first time. And I'm growing Gilberti tomatoes for the first time.

I was just checking on my backups to see if I have enough seedlings to replace anything that might freeze with this coming cold snap. I can't believe it's going to get so cold. I'm going to cover with screens. Are you guys covering?

I am covering but with stupid towels. All I have. But all I have out is cold stuff, lettuces, spinach, kale, radishes and peas. But still. We are going to get low 20s...no idea if this will work, I will get the wet stuff off as soon as possible in the AM....

As for new; I am trying a Chinese red meat radish, sugar snap peas, kale, lettuces for Spring. Hot weather; watermelon Black Mountain, cucumbers, green, white and purple tomatoes, ground cherries, Sakatas melons, Big Red peppers, Great North peppers, Chiogga beets. Tokyo Cross turnips. Minnesota Midget melons too. Love melons. And peppers, and tomatoes!

I have one of those floating row covers that covers the whole bed. Not sure if it will help, but I only have snap peas, lettuce, beets, onions, and radishes in the ground so far. I think they should survive

My wife bought a few brussel sprout transplants. From what I have read, they don't do well in Maryland summers. They are more of a fall plant. But we will go ahead and try planting them anyway.

Zach, your row covers have to be better than what I have! Which is clean rag towels.....and not enough to cover my snap pea sprouts...baby plants/sprouts seem to do better than "true leaves" seedlings. Hoping....fingers crossed.

Mike, my sister in law grew Brussels sprouts, they take a WHILE! It has been eons ago. I think, like many homegrown versions, they are completely different and superior to anything I have ever tasted!
