Re: California - What are you doing this month?
Green house winter Rutger!! - 1 1/2" tall x 1.5" deep x 1.75" wide! It snapped off the vine when the vine fell over. A little mealy, but very acidy and juicy.
Re: California - What are you doing this month?
So... I just have one question for you... is he putting it on your roof???!!! Where on earth are you going to fit it, lol?!
Re: California - What are you doing this month?
It will go on the lawn next to the 3 that form a key hole. Change two 180* sprinkler heads to 90*. I have 93 sq ft, of which 9 have spurge-type weeds, so it will bring the usable total to 100. Plus tomato buckets and lots of pots. When the new one is in place, I'll post a photo.
Re: California - What are you doing this month?
I also posted this under "Are you seeing bees?" I pulled back the bridal tulle this morning to allow these bees to get to the broccoli flowers. I love snapping off the tender stems and eating the flowering heads. They are sweet!
Re: California - What are you doing this month?
It was 80*F today! We are getting the carpet installed tomorrow, no longer will we look like squatters in one of the small bedrooms! Getting up in the morning has meant literally getting up in the morning! Hours from starting my seedlings.
Re: California - What are you doing this month?
80 degrees F ... wow! It's getting colder for us this week with a forecast overnight low of Minus 17 F on Friday night and a high of Minus 4 F on Saturday. We are months away from 80 F.

Plums, apriums, apricots are flowering, and all the apples leaf buds are swelling. I was too late to prune them this winter, so I'm going to get what I get and try for some summer pruning. My tomato seedlings are big enough to start hardening off, and I'm going to start some tree Kale cuttings. Got my fingers crossed that we don't get any frost!

Re: California - What are you doing this month?
YS, A neighbor's apricot is blooming (along with my winter broccoli!) so it is getting close. I need to harvest the oranges and prune, before it starts flowering.
The beds in the sun are warm enough to sow but the ones in winter shade are too cold except for the brassicas that are planted. I should have 107 squares this season but I have 137 varieties of seeds! Yes, tomato buckets and pots, also, but it's going to take some thinking before I start seedlings indoors. And extended shade material for scorching summer. I have no idea if we will have much more rain this spring, regardless, there will be heavy water rationing. Back to the greenhouse, there are 2 beefsteaks blushing! And, the Argentine ants have moved in to 3 buckets! Oh, well.
I started another jar of cabbage. This time I used my primitive shredder for finer shred, and massaged for a full 5+ minutes with the salt. Perfect. Juice is right to the top of the cabbage. No water needed.

How exciting!
Have you tried cinnamon or peppermint in the buckets to drive off the ants?

Re: California - What are you doing this month?
I have to get out in the greenhouse and start my spring round of seeds. I'm late already. Oh well! Last year I noticed it didn't really matter much that volunteers that started caught up to those that I had started earlier. I guess because our growing season is so long in the end it won't really make the kind of a difference it makes if you're a short growing season area.
However.... those seed packs are sitting behind my desk just begging me to get them in the dirt! They are very distracting

Re: California - What are you doing this month?
Yep, seed packets just staring at me. They remind me of "The Shining" where the topiaries kept getting closer! I finally updated the Excel sheet and it's scary how many packets I have.
Re: California - What are you doing this month?
LOL! LOL! LOL! You have a spreadsheet for your seed packets?! I have a fruit flat where they're semi-stacked up semi by season, kinda sorta maybe in some crazy woman's mind organization system!
Re: California - What are you doing this month?
The photo option is back up. My Valentine's 2' x 7' TT.
Corner construction:
Leveling on the lumpy lawn:
Ready to install the "cup holders" for the PVC frames:
All that's left is to finish installing the holders, lining with weed fabric, fluffing the peat moss, making the Mel's Mix and filling . . .

LOL...I get that. Mine are filed in clampacks by season, too. Sorta kinda...
Sanderson, you're TT is beautiful! I have a 2 x 7 on ground that's perfect for raspberries and I love it.
You folks have any leafy greens growing now that you can post photos of? I'm jonesin' here....

We just had an unusual earthquake. Not the usual wiggly bowl-of-jello type, but a boom!
