Oh Happy Day
I have been wanting the "volunteer" tomato plant in my yard again. They had small tasty tomatoes. A friend had given several tomatoes from her plant, but I have not planted them yet.
Surprise #1. I needed more tomatoes for our salad so we went to a store that stocks local produce. For the first time I saw my small tomatoes. They were called "current tomatoes".
Surprise #2. Yesterday I was weeding in one of the places that used to have those plants. Then... found a worm. I had thought all the worms had left my yard. It was immediately captured and put into my first SFG. He quickly disappeared into the mix. I wonder if/when it will have babies.
Surprise #3. As I continued to weed, I found a wilted "volunteer" tomato plant in the bunch of weeds that I had just pulled. Would you believe I didn't have any good place to put it. So I added a trowel of compost to a pot with old nursery mix and dead plants. When I went to check it after dark, I had to rescue it from 2 large slugs. This morning the tomatoes plant is still going strong. Hopefully it will take root. It will have to stay in that pot until I have time to make another SFG.
