Disease on Indoor Tomato Plant from seed?
Hi everyone,
I am growing tomato plants from seed indoors.
One of the plants have developed some brown spots on it's leaves.
The bottom three leaves and top two leaves.
I have looked through the forum along with other websites but to be honest, many of them look similar. I believe it is a Black Krim tomato.
Please advise and can I save the plant?
Thank you.

Re: Disease on Indoor Tomato Plant from seed?
Hi Dunkinjean,
This looks similar to what I'm seeing with my tomato plant seedlings. (See here... https://squarefoot.forumotion.com/t19341-yellow-dying-leaves-on-tomato-seedlings)
So far, in my case, I'm guessing over-watering lead to malnutrition. I've been treating it by getting the plants out into sunlight and outdoor breezes in milder weather to get them to dry out slightly. So far the plants are responding favorably.
If this doesn't seem applicable to your situation, at least it's one thing you can rule out.

CitizenKane,
Thank you for your advisement and link.
I added some compost to the plants the other day hoping that will help.
Today, I put them outside for 2 hrs.
I can only hope!

When the plants get that big, they are ready for some feeding. Starting seed mix won't give them the energy they need.
It can't hurt to give them a boost with half-strength liquid fertilizer every few days. If it calls for 1 Tablespoon in a gallon of water, use only 1/2 Tablespoon. Its better to give less than too much which can destroy a plant. I use only organic types on my crops.

Quiltbea,
I have been adding fertilizer every 2 weeks to the tomato plants.
Do you think I should fertilize them even though I added compost?
Thank you!

Dunkin.....Do you mean you have been adding compost?
Or have you been adding some liquid fertilizer, an entirely different thing?

Re: Disease on Indoor Tomato Plant from seed?
After I potted up the plants to larger pots, I mixed a fertilizer with warm water and watered into the trays holding the plants every two weeks (my soil content was only peat moss and vermiculite).
They were all growing fine.
I then added some compost to the pots for nutrition.
The fertilizer I used was miracle grow for veg's (maybe I shouldn't use this?}
Did I do a no no?
Tks quiltbea.

Re: Disease on Indoor Tomato Plant from seed?
Dunkin.....It sounds like you are doing the right things for your plants.
Are they getting too much sunshine? You know when you harden them off you have to start off with only an hour of sun the 1st day, then up it to 2, then to a little more each day. Maybe they are being sunburned.
Sometimes when you water them and the water remains on the leaves and the sun is too hot, it causes brown marks.
Can anyone comment on that possibility?

Re: Disease on Indoor Tomato Plant from seed?
The brown on the tomato leaves came before I set the plants outside.
Today was the first day I put them outside.
I will only set them outside for a shorter time.
Tks
