Grubs, squish or not? Empty Grubs, squish or not?

Are grubs good or bad for garden?  Typical white colored grub with little legs, about an inch long, 1/4" to 1/2" in diameter.  Came across one in my compost pile.  I love to find worms in my compost, this guy I'm not sure of.  I already squashed the one I found, he just looked like he ate a lot.  Should I leave them alone?  Do they provide benefit like worms or are they bad for garden?

Hi Zmoore.  Welcome from Atlanta, GA!  Glad you've joined us.

There are all sorts of grubs...  I found some while cleaning out the beds a couple of weeks ago.  Like you, didn't like their looks, so I got rid of them.  Good thing too, it turns out.

What you might want to do is a Google image search for white grub.  When you find a pic that looks like yours, click on it, then the website it's attached to.  That should give you some good info on what you're looking at.

Good luck!

My grubs are not good.  Mad After more research I'll probably be purchasing beneficial nematodes, called 'Ladies in Red', from Home Depot.  These should be safe not only for my organic yard and perennial gardens, but for the SFG also.

grubs can be destructive, but they are not all created equal. Sometimes beetles are beneficial in the garden,.
