I enjoyed reading Plantoid's comments about carrots. From my own experience, carrots can indeed take forever to germinate (depending on soil temps). I've even had some seeds from fall overwinter and the suddenly germinate in early spring (after I lost hope that anything would ever come up).
My avatar is of carrots harvested in spring (after an early fall planting). The plants came up in fall, were sort of in suspended animation as far as growth in winter, and then they exploded in height when it got warmer.
