Not sure if this is relevant to thread
2 seaons ago was my very first SFG attempt.
I had nothing as far as compost and was completely compost illiterate.
I picked up 24 5 gallon containers of compost at our local recycle center.
After asking the mgr. what was in it, he told me brush, tree cuttings and leaves.
Thinking this wasn't a complete mix according to what I read in the book, I picked up
the following.
mushroom manure, horse manure, chickitty doo doo, and another mix specially made for organic gardening
( Bio-char..something or other )
When I made up the MM I added about a quart of each item to the compost portion of the MM.
I know not what the PH was and really don't care now, however I only wish I could provide the same for my future beds.
What I grew, in every aspect of the garden, veggies, flowers, herbs, grew so great I couldn't believe it.
Probably beginners luck when I knew absolutely nothing of what I was doing.
pic is an example of just one item

Thanks for the feedback everyone. So far the action I've taken it to add a thin top layer of cow manure and some miracle grow. Things are already looking a lot healthier already. Hopefully the soil is in much better condition next year given the treatments.

Glad to hear things are looking better for you.  Your soil will get better and better over time, it's so hard to be patient and wait for it to happen, but so worth it when it does :-)

Rueffy, I'm glad things are picking up for you. You prompted me to write a new topic on Mel's Mix for beginners. Just some thoughts I have had for some time.

Jimmy, That's Fair quality.
