fruit plants on the way out ? but cheap

I saw some blueberry, raspberry, and a few other plants seriously reduced at our local Lowes store.
Has any one ever had success in planting these in the fall of the year ?

These plants don't look good at all, however the roots may be ok.

I have had success transplanting shrubs in late summer and fall. The trick is planting early enough, with plenty of good compost and adequate watering over several weeks to encourage new root establishment before dormancy sets in.

Jimmy, I'd say try them. You're going to trim them pretty well when you plant them anyway...

Please explain what you mean by 'trim them'.

According to everything that I've read, it's good to cut the canes to about 6"-8" high when you first plant them.

GWN - you're the resident raspberry expert - what do YOU do? (You've got a LOT more practical experience than I do, lol!)
