Beets in Memphis Empty Beets in Memphis

I love heirloom beets, but have never been able to grow them in my SFG.  I'm going to give it another try this fall and looking for any helpful suggestions.  I just amended my "soil" with compost and worm castings. Ii there any supplement that beets need that is not provided in my mixture?
