The Beauty of Cedar Planter Boxes Dsc02514

I made these cedar planter boxes for daughter and son in law. My daughter wants to have an herb garden on her deck. This is the first time that I've ever worked with cedar as all the wood I've ever worked with has been pine or treated lumber. After I finished and powerwashed the boxes, the wood grain really came out and I was just amazed at how beautiful this wood really is.

I made my other planters out of treated lumber as they are for flowers only, but used the cedar for these as she will be planting edibles. My other boxes cost me $5.00 a box to make and these were $15.00 a box, but I have to say that the additional expense was well worth it.

The Beauty of Cedar Planter Boxes Empty Yes, $15 a box

Post  mjk12 5/2/2010, 1:55 pm

I went to the box hardware store yesterday and bought three 1x6x8 cedar boards, cost with tax, about $15. Takes me one board to make one box, plus the deck screws, which I have a bunch of those from other projects. Found out my local lumber store had 1x6x8 cedar boards about $12 to $13.

That's all I know about pricing.
