Hello from St Louis
I have wanted to have a Square Foot Garden for at least 20 years and I finally have one now. I bought a house a couple of years ago and now I have a place to do it. I built a 4' x 8' bed out of 6" plastic deck boards and it has a trellis made out of metal conduit and fittings with plastic fencing for the climbing plants to grow on. I mixed my own Mel's mix following the recommendations in the book. My garden is doing great. I planted zucchini, cucumbers, watermelon, cantaloupe, grape and big boy tomatoes, red and yellow bell peppers, lettuce, green onions, catnip, chocolate mint, eggplant, curly and flat parsley and dill. It is amazing that all that fits in this small of a space but nothing is crowded. I know a lot of other people who garden with traditional row crops and they have to till each year and they use a lot more space to grow a lot less than what I will get from my garden. I am thrilled with my SFG.

Congratulations and welcome! Sounds like you've got a good set-up going.
Is your cantaloupe trellised? Those are huge plants, right?
What do you do with your chocolate mint? I have several pots of it going, but it doesn't seem quite right in what I usually use my mints in -- hot or cold tea. I'm not sure what else to do with it, though.

Yes, the cucumbers, watermelon and cantaloupe are growing on a trellis. They are space hogs otherwise. We have used the chocolate mint in meat loaf and it gives a good flavour. It is also good for a sore throat. Just put a pinch of it between your cheek and gums and suck on it. This is the first time I have grown it but I did google how to use it in other things. I will post pictures of my garden tomorrow.

A mint in meatloaf? Holy cow, that's something I would never have thought up.
