What can I plant now for Zone 7b?
I just got my 1st SFG finished today. So I'm itching to get something going! But different sites have different dates & I'm afraid it'll be too hot through July.
Could I start carrots or green onions now?
I also bought 2 marigolds to companion plant & keep insects away. Do they need there own squares? Or could I plant them at the intersections of squares?

The dwarf ones stay small enough that they don't impose very much. But still, I would keep them toward the outside, as larger plants can shade them out.

I'm in North GA, which is 7b also. You can definitely start carrots now! Also, as I recently posted, I'm going to try some cucumbers (my first crop bit the dust) - I have vining, but someone suggested bush cukes might mature faster.
You also could probably do bush beans, they mature in about 2 months, I've done plantings of those in July - 9 per square!

I planted butter beans today in the squares free after the potatoes finished. I usually plant field peas this time of summer also. This year I got a late start and my peas are still producing, so I may not plant them again.
Has anyone started a second crop of tomatoes this late? What about spinach or swiss chard?

I'm 7A/7B, and have done tomatoes this late, planted from suckers I plucked off successful tomato plants. They took a couple of weeks to establish, and then grew fine.
I also had good luck starting quite late with patty pan squash direct from seed. The squash don't get too big, so they can produce quickly.

I have a BAD problem with rabbits and deer. I was told that marigolds not only keep some insects away, they attract the good ones, like bees and butterflies, but they also help to keep the 4 legged furry rascals out of the garden. I may have gone a bit overboard, I don't know, but I planted one about every 6 feet, and a few inside the garden. I DID see a couple rabbits near the garden, but never IN the garden, or any indication on the plants that they'd been in it, not even a single track or dropping from a rabbit OR deer. Marigolds are now a standard for any garden of mine from now on.

Interesting.... Please keep us updated on this, Arejaye.
I'm right on the 7b/8a border, also have deer & rabbits, so sounds like a great idea...
