Not what you want to see out back door
Very bad sight from our back door. About 5 miles northwest. Went from one acre on wed. as the forest service didn't want to spend the money for a water helicopter. First picture at 10:00 AM on Friday, second at 3:00 and the third at 6:00. Over 750 acres now with 25 to 30 mph winds expected this afternoon. It is heading directly toward W. Beaver creek wilderness area which is our water. The helicopters are taking the water out of Brush Hollow reservoir which is our only storage for water. This makes me so @#^# mad I could scream( if I knew who to scream at.

Re: Not what you want to see out back door
My heart goes out to you guys, we live in a very similar area in the foothills outside of Fresno, CA. We have an arsonist that has been setting grass fires for the past year or so. Fortunately, the authorities here are knocking them down immediately and we've been spared a big fire.
Be safe.
Be safe.

Oh, no! I hope they get it under control soon.

I believe that anyone caught in the active commission of a crime should be shot.... Or at least sent to prison for a lengthy sentence.

I'm really sorry. Its scary and sad. Sometimes the authorities don't use their brains for anything other than holding their skin on their faces.

Re: Not what you want to see out back door
Landarch that's exactly right. The fire started in Phantom canyon which is the road we normally take to go to the mining towns of Victor and Cripple Creek. When you emerge from the canyon there is a sign pointing to Sagway reservoir which is our upper storage area so that is why it is so upsetting. In my blast Saturday I blamed the forest service but it was actually the BLM. In a meeting Sat. night the BLM said they were monitoring the fire when it was just one acre and they thought it would burn itself out. They said (and I am not kidding) we never expected the wind to come up from that direction. The wind almost always blows from the West and I listen to the weather forecast. I knew it was going to blow Sat. so I got up real early to water before it came up. Talk about clueless. They need to put these fires out fast.
The fire was started by lightning, and grew to 700+ acres by Sat night. Sun. morning it was revised down to 500 acres and was 10% contained. They used three single engine slurry planes, two twin engine slurry planes and three water helicopters for the last three days. Wind has returned and the smoke has started again. It was mostly absent until a few minutes ago and it is only one plume.
