Planting tomatoes, cucumbers and squash back to back on wire mesh trellis.
Is it ok to plant tomatoes, cucumbers and different types of squash back to back on a vertical mesh trellis?
Thanks

Usually the plants grow and weave through and around the mesh. I don't see how they could successfully share the same trellis area. Unless I am misunderstanding your question?

Good question. I agree with Turan. Every type of veggie has its own root/water needs, leaf area needs and fruit area needs. They may also have different insect or disease problems that should be dealt with separately without affecting other veggies if possible.

No, there will not be enough room for your plants.Veganist wrote:Is it ok to plant tomatoes, cucumbers and different types of squash back to back on a vertical mesh trellis?

Re: Planting tomatoes, cucumbers and squash back to back on wire mesh trellis.
I have semi successfully grown cukes or pole beans and tomatoes somewhat back to back on the same trellis (cattle panel arch) BUT they were tomatoes in buckets on the ground and cukes/beans in waist high tabletops. I encouraged the tomatoes to spread sideways so parts were topping out just below the bushy parts of the cukes/beans and trained a single stem up the outer edges of the cattle panel. Was not ideal but it worked I put the buckets on the outer edges of the 5 ft cattle panel arch and planted the cukes or beans in the middle 2 1/2 squares of the 4 ft raised bed Put marigolds in the corner 1/2 squares. No competition for soil but they did fight for trellis space. It was a tangle. I don't recommend it
