Its time to get those outdoors so what I would do is plant the biggest one in the spot you have chosen for it and put the other 2 in other places if you have room.  One Zuke will need all the nutrients in its plot.

 glad you\'re here

Yes, it needs to be taken down to a single plant. If you can gently remove the other two you can transplant them somewhere else. Or just cut them at their base and toss em in the compost pile.

That's a neat idea with the brown paper. Do you water through the hole or do you lift it to water?

I hand water through the hole with "sun warmed water"...once everything else has sprouted I'll put paper/newspaper over everything else & straw or mulch over that...per my local garden expert.

This is my 1st year so I'm excited but nervous I may have made(or make) some rookie mistakes.....

For instance, I think I planted too many tomato plants next to one another in adjoining sq ft spaces...

Either way it'll be fun learning for the future years!

Thanks & look forward to kicking ideas around with everyone here!

Zuchinni Sprout Empty This is interesting because .....

Post  sfgbeginner 6/1/2014, 10:00 pm

First off, let me say that I will never be done learning.  Secondly, I got zucchini plants from my local farm market and when I bought them, I noticed there were 2 plants in each little container and the owner said "You always plant 2 seeds when you are growing zucchini" ..... so are you saying I should only have 1 plant per square?  I have 3 squares in the back of my sfg near the trellis, hoping I will be able to train the little things to grow UP  :-)

I plant zukes 1 per two squares, not trellised.  But I would try 1 per square if I though I could prune it enough to get it up on the trellis.  If you are very careful, you can sometimes separate the two plants, but you risk damaging both.  The surefire way to thin is to cut down the smaller of the seedlings leaving the stronger one to grow.

Kay

FYI, I am taking a chance this year and planting small pumpkins 1 per square against a cattle panel.
