Yes, they were big, CN! 2” maybe length wise? Really cool!
OG, not that I am aware, but now I know what to look for...I had wisteria at my old house. Will keep an eye out.

Lilly Leaf Beetle
Lily Leaf Beetle. Shows up on "genuine lilies." These are on a transplanted Easter Lily that I am experimenting with growing. Never saw them before - but they just showed up. I imagine there were eggs on the plant? Dunno...

Had a visitor to the gardens last evening. A big rabbit found a hole in the fence around one of the raised beds, and decided to check out the Romaine Lettuce and Curly Kale (it could not get to the Swiss Chard from there). Fortunately, it didn't seem to like either of the vegetables and decided to leave. The hole in the fence has been fixed...

They really are gorgeous! I love them both; the females are just subtle! And elusive! I can never get a pic of the girls!

Strange and Wonderful visitor? Was totally surprised today when we returned home from town and found a little visitor right next to the back door, between the compost bucket and the house. A young fawn was hiding there. Took it out to the pasture and the mother met it, and off they went to the woods....

I actually cried. Bob went running out to set a food and water station on the other side of the fence, so the little ones wouldn't have to jump.AtlantaMarie wrote:I see 6 in the first shot & 9 in the 2nd...! How exciting!

He's a little softie. I would do the same thing!
How close to your property(ies) was the fire? It devastated so many acres that to see wild life is heart warming.

About 1/4 of a mile. Thank goodness for a neighbor fighting it alone for almost 12 hours before help arrived. We also got lucky in the path of the fire. Even though it was scary close, we can't see any of the devastation from here. It's all down and away from us.sanderson wrote:

Had to borrow this photo from OG cuz I couldn't get one of my own, but yesterday we saw a mama doe moving across the field, with a fawn in tow. She was moving too fast, so the baby had to hop like a bunny across the tall grass to keep up with her. At one point, she stopped, turned back, and licked the baby's head, then turned back around and kept moving. That would have been a real "Kodak moment" but she was just too quick for my camera.OhioGardener wrote:Strange and Wonderful visitor? Re: Any Strange and Wonderful Visitors? Photos please!
2019 has been a banner year for little frogs in the gardens. In past seasons, we might have seen one a week. This year, we see at least one -- and sometimes more -- every time we go into the gardens. This one is about the size of a grape. It was sitting on the balcony railing when I went out to feed the birds this morning.

Re: Any Strange and Wonderful Visitors? Photos please!
Not strange nor wonderful, but one of the trail cams captured a rabbit quickly traveling through the raised bed gardens.

At least it didn't hang around to do any damage -- and rabbits sure are cute.
