I can't help it. I know not all snakes are poisonous. I know they keep down the vector population. I understand they are probably more wary of us.
But I JUST CAN'T TAKE SNAKES!!!!
Maybe it was training as a toddler because we lived in moccasin, copperhead and rattler terratory.

he or she is a very beautiful black racer..i know most people are creeped out by snakes but its harmless and might help keep the veggie eating vermin away. He's not posionous and sort of pretty if you ask me..but i'm weird that way...now if the was a moccasin or a copperhead...he'd be dead on the spot. I say let him take up shelter there, he'll keep your plants safe and trust me they are afraid and will run from you

Oooh, Acara - is he an indigo or a racer?
Almost looked bluish, but wasn't completely sure.
I had a racer who lived in my monstera, but climbed the orange tree to wait for prey. I nearly picked him instead of an orange when I was heavily pregnant with my youngun. He ran over my foot about a year later and scared the doody outta me!
You're lucky to have gotten such awesome photos -- they're both usually much more shy than that.
(for all those with the heebie-jeebies -- these are the good guys -- shy, hungry, and non-poisonous -- and if he's an indigo, he's a protected species, too.)

OOOOOOOOH! I hope I get some visitors like that! He would be king in my garden! Last year I lost 5 tomato seedlings to the resident under-shed bunny!

Went out this morning to meet my hubby for lunch and looked over at the bed right outside the front door and SNAKE HOLE. Most likely a black as I have seen them around. I don't argue with them so long as they aren't in the lived in portions of the house. We are rural suburban so we get lots of mice. I have actually forund a black in my attic once - must have climbed the old chimney. They really are good for keeping the animal population down and even the rabbits tend to stay away from active snake tunnels.

Those are Racers.
The mocassins, pygmy rattlers and coral snakes will be next month when all the rain starts.
Don't usually worry about them though .....kinda secondary to all the aggressive alligators during mating season (we have at least two pairs that like to sun in the backyard).
The snakes don't bother me ..... they make the squirrels and rabbits work for their dinner when they poach my veggies

My 16 y/o daughters a herp-lover, so she would skin me alive if she ever caught me hurting one. She drives my wife nuts because she'll go out and pick them up and move them out of the way if they are close to a door or something.
Luckily she doesn't have the same love of alligators

) you don't hold till she has shed and fed! then she is a big baby!
Just bought double habitat to get them in one room...UPSTAIRS IN THE SPARE ROOM!!! WITH PADLOCKS ON EACH SECTION!!!!!
Sorry...it don't sound like it, but I do like them if they are fed and won't bite! Just like dogs, they have their own quirks lol...

I like SOME snakes. Don't want any poisonous one though like COBRAS and the only mocassins I want are the kind you wear. My son had a Columbian Red-tailed Boa for several years. They are actually the perfect pet. You only need to feed them once a week or so, they only poop once a week or so, very easy to clean. They do not chew the furniture or bark incessantly when the doorbell rings. You don't have to take them for walks. AND when they get big enough....they will eat the neighbours cats!
Hopefully we can attract some snakes to our yard. Not that I have trouble with mice or voles but I have read that garter snakes eat slugs. And I would way rather have garter snakes than slugs.
