Turtle
Walking to Katie's this morning and found this walking across the front yard. Don't know anything about turtles and all of our local reptile/turtle folks are closed on Mondays. This little guy stinks to high heaven, which I don't think is a good sign. Anybody know anything about turtles?
We got it wet and put it in a container that's sloped like a river bank, so it can get in or out of the water. Afraid to feed it without expert advice.

This brings back wonderful memories!
My dad rescued turtles from being run over on the road all the time when I was a kid.
He would bring them home for us kids to see and then take them to a wooded area
and release them so they couldn't wander out on the road again... That would be my
suggestion...just let it loose in a remote area.

That's what the turtle thought, too, so it let itself go in the yard and disappeared.ispinwool wrote:This brings back wonderful memories!

Turns out that's normal for some turtles. There's one that's called a "stink pot turtle" and another one (or maybe a different name for the same one) called a "musk turtle." I'm guessing this guy is one of those.Scorpio Rising wrote:He is just probably stinky...glad he is off to do what will happen...

Maybe a kiddie pool for them? My folks had a pair and their kiddie pool was a mess. Every time they quacked, they . . .

We have lots of visitors to our yard and we tend to refer to the year of the.......kitties, morning doves, spiders, and this year a male Cardinal a young yearling that Peggy feeds fruit to from her hand. She calls him lonely boy but a few days ago he has a girl friend that can be seen now. Peggy is thrilled for him and watches them intently. I wil try to get a picture of her feeding him or the pair.

All of the baby Bluebirds we raised last year have come back to nest, and we don't have enough houses for them. The 4 houses we have are full, some with eggs, and some with babies already. I love how social they are, and they don't mind me looking into their nest at all - they just sit on the fence and chirp while I check the houses.
One nest has 4 Bluebird eggs
One nest has 4 babies already
Sometimes they will visit with me while I am working on the raised beds, too!

Yes, they were big, CN! 2” maybe length wise? Really cool!
OG, not that I am aware, but now I know what to look for...I had wisteria at my old house. Will keep an eye out.

Lilly Leaf Beetle
Lily Leaf Beetle. Shows up on "genuine lilies." These are on a transplanted Easter Lily that I am experimenting with growing. Never saw them before - but they just showed up. I imagine there were eggs on the plant? Dunno...
