Single sow carrot seeds
I am bound and determined to get a carrot harvest this year. So far I've done everything 'by the book' and am waiting, waiting, waiting......
Any suggestions how long I wait for the carrots to sprout before I replant? I see a few 2 leaf carrot sprouts but most have not done anyting.
This single seed sow for carrots seems like it will be more work. Resowing those that haven't sprouted.
What are your experiences with carrots, single seed sowing and varieties that work well with SFG in greenhouse beds.

Re: Single sow carrot seeds
I grew carrots for the first time last year and they were a great success! I did 16 per square, and planted 'Little Finger' and 'Scarlet Nantes' varieties. I did my first planting April 6 and have sprouts as of Sunday. We have had a couple of really warm days so I am sure there is more growth by now. Did another planting on 4-19 so those haven't germinated yet.

Single sow .
Pelleted seed ,. seed in a tape or home made single sows using a water based non fungicidal glue , glued to tiny squares of tissue paper .
The biggest problem of all methods was that the ground had to be kept quite moist after sowing and if it dried out ,a hard crust formed on the soil.
You should not get the crusting with MM but do take care to water reasonably .. carrots can take up to 3 weeks to show , so be patient if they don't say hello in the first week or so .

I've got Little Fingers, Danvers 126, & Touchon going with more to follow shortly. They're slowly showing up.
Biggest problem I've got is that when watering, apparently the seeds are moving a bit. So some of them are right next to each other now. But we'll see. First time trying them.

Watering with micro spray heads and a pressure reducer so you get a fine mist for watering is the way to go with small seeds in MM as it does not make the MM move and it is so fine that the moisture drains down evenly very quickly .
I find that using a sprinkler or a watering can with a fine rose is a bit too heavy on MM

I had great luck with carrots my first year but last year it wasn't so good. Also, I've heard that you can put a piece of screen or cheese cloth or somesuch over them until they sprout. That way when watering they won't move about.

Plantoid & CC. I'll keep that info in mind. Especially since I need to get more going, lol.
We're using a 330-gallon tote for rainwater collection. It's a low-feed gravity system. I'll have to see if I have a mist setting on my wand. I've been using sprinkle...
